Summer in Louisiana can be intense. It's usually around August that we start to see those triple-digit temps, everyday thunderstorms, and a Biblical plague amount of mosquitos. This is when your loyalty to Louisiana truly matters. Sure, it can be a Herculean task to leave the comfort of an air-conditioned house to go anywhere. You've got to push through because these summer activities are the ones you'll look back on later in life and smile about.
1. A scenic road trip
There are plenty of scenic byways in Louisiana that are perfect for road trips. Our favorite is the Creole Nature Trail, but we encourage everyone to drive all of Louisiana’s scenic byways at least once in their life! Check out our Ultimate Road Trip Packing List to ensure nothing gets left behind.
2. A dip in the Gulf
Louisiana isn’t known for our Gulf Coast beaches, but that just makes them a hidden gem. Head down to Holly Beach or Rutherford Beach for a day and spend an afternoon searching for seashells, splashing in the surf, and catching an epic sunset.
3. White Sands Lake Day Beach
This aquapark in Bogalusa is the best way to beat the heat on a hot summer day. The spring-fed lake has several aquatic attractions, boat rentals, cabana rentals, and more.
4. A snoball
You can’t let summer pass you by without getting at least one snoball—it’s the law. Ok, it’s not a law but it should be.
Hansen’s in New Orleans is where it all began, but there are hundreds across the Pelican State!
5. A State Park
With 21 state parks in Louisiana, you can bet you’re never too far away from one. All of Louisiana’s state parks have hiking trails and plenty of outdoor activities to enjoy, and many have swimming pools or lakes you can swim in. For lakes with beaches, check out Lake Claiborne State Park.
How many have you already checked off your bucket list? Shout it out in the comments!
