As you can see, the area is fenced off, and trespassing on the property is most definitely illegal.

But of course, that hasn't stopped some intrepid explorers from setting their sights here.

The reason there is interest in the pea farm is because of all the ghost and creepy stories that surround it.

This building was established as a penal farm in 1905 as the Caddo Parish Penal Farm.

It was meant to be a 'self-sustained' jail, meaning that those incarcerated here grew the food that they ate themselves, and sold leftovers for the jail's operations.

Not surprisingly, this plan did not work out as smoothly as they thought.

Conditions in the jail were deplorable, and many considered being sent here as a worst case scenario.

Some who find themselves near the area, and have reported several ghost sightings.

Former inmates are said to roam the property, which used to span over 100 acres. There were stories of being a terrible basement chamber for prisoners where they suffered horribly.

The pea farm was shut down in the late 1950s, and it has been abandoned ever since.
