There are so many fun things to experience in the state of Kentucky, and one of the best ways to do so is with an exciting day trip. No matter where you live in the Bluegrass State (or even if you're just visiting) you can pack a lot of fun into one day. Kentucky's natural beauty is one thing everyone should experience - especially the state's many waterfalls - and we are also home to several wineries and vineyards that make for great little excursions. If these are two of your favorite things about Kentucky, then this wine and waterfalls day trip in Kentucky is for you. It will take you to the best wine and waterfalls in our state. If you need to adjust the directions or map for this Kentucky wine trail road trip take into account where you're starting from.
1. Miguel's Pizza
To kick off your adventure, begin by fueling up at a nature lover's paradise - Miguel's Pizza. This dining destination is known for its pizza, but they also open up early in the morning and serve a delicious breakfast! Choose from eggs, omelets, pancakes, and much more. Miguel's is located at 1890 Natural Bridge Road, Slade, KY, 40376.
2. Creation Falls on the Rock Bridge Trail
Once you have a full belly, it's just a short drive to the first waterfall destination. The stunning Creation Falls can be found on the Rock Bridge Trail within Red River Gorge. This is an easy 1.3-mile loop trail and it's filled with natural beauty. If you hike it on a hot day, wear a swimsuit to splash around in the falls. Don't forget your camera as both the falls and the Rock Bridge Arch are definitely photo-worthy.
3. Cedar Creek Vineyards
After some time on the trails around Creation Falls, hop back in the car, and head south. You may want to pick up some lunch en route to your next stop (a stop back at Miguel's for pizza is even an option). The next destination is Cedar Creek Vineyards, a lovely vineyard nestled in the rolling hills of Somerset. The vineyard offers tastings select days of the week, and by appointment. Relax here for a bit, try a few different wines, and enjoy the scenery. Cedar Creek Vineyards is located at 294 Cedar Creek Lane, Somerset, KY, 42501.
4. Eagle Falls Trail at Cumberland Falls State Resort Park
Head out from the vineyard and drive about an hour to Cumberland Falls State Resort Park. Within the park, you'll want to do the 1.9-mile Eagle Falls Trail, which offers views of not one, but two waterfalls. Of course, you'll see the trail's namesake, Eagle Falls, but you'll also get to experience a unique view of Kentucky's largest waterfall, Cumberland Falls. This is the ultimate waterfall hike, and it's filled with natural beauty and just enough adventure.
5. Corbin Cellars
After this waterfall chasing and wine tasting, it's time for a nice meal, and perhaps another glass of wine to wrap up the day. Drive just half an hour from the park to Corbin Cellars for a relaxing meal in a comfortable environment. The ambiance of this bar and restaurant is ideal after a long (and fun) day, and anything you choose from the food and wine menus will satisfy your cravings. Corbin Cellars is located at 306 S. Main Street, Corbin, KY, 40701.
