When the holiday season arrives, it seems that every type of landscape throughout Kentucky transforms into a winter wonderland. The lodges of our state parks are decked out, our big cities illuminated with lights and, of course, the small towns take on a new level of charm. There's nothing like a festive small town main street, and the Bluegrass State has them in abundance. One of the best main streets at Christmas in Kentucky can be found in Georgetown. While this town isn't tiny, it also isn't large and it has all of the appeal you'd want in this type of destination. Whether you're local or looking to visit Georgetown, you'll love its enchanting Main Street and all of the holiday events that take place this time of year. It's one of our favorite Christmas towns in Kentucky, and it just might become one of yours!
Georgetown is a beautiful town located north of Lexington and adjacent to the Kentucky Horse Park.
With such a great location, this charming town makes for a great day trip if you're close enough or even a weekend getaway. And if you decide to visit during December, you are in for many festive surprises.
When winter approaches and the snow begins to fall, Georgetown becomes even more enchanting.
Many of the local shops and restaurants are centered around Main Street, which really dazzles throughout December.
There are festive events happening all season long throughout the town, but perhaps the most anticipated is the Home for the Holidays Parade.
The parade runs along Main and Broadway and is such a fun and unique way to celebrate the holiday season. There is a theme each year and you're always bound to see impressive floats and hear Christmas music and caroling. The parade makes Georgetown one of the best holiday towns in Kentucky.
After the parade and the arrival of the big guy in red, it's time to light the town's massive tree.
The town gathers around as Santa and the flip of the switch officially kick off the season and Christmas in Kentucky.
Many of the local shops host open houses during the day and evening, but they are great for shopping throughout the entire season.
Other events to check out include story time with Mrs. Claus, Letters to Santa, and photos with Santa.
Also nearby and open throughout the season is the historic Ward Hall.
This Greek-Revival-style mansion hosts Christmas candlelight tours through the beautifully decorated home throughout the season.
You can't visit Georgetown without a stop at the Kentucky Horse Park and the holidays are a great time to visit.
Historically, the Southern Lights Holiday Festival begins after Thanksgiving and runs through December. The event includes a drive-thru Christmas light display and other activities for all ages.
Georgetown, its Main Street, and its surrounding horse farms are all straight out of a postcard. And during the holiday season, it's an especially enchanting place to spend Christmas in KY.
