9 Can’t-Miss Restaurants You Need To Add To Your Kansas Road Trip Checklist
Highlights nine favorite restaurants along I-70 in Kansas for a road trip.
If you've got a long drive from one side of Kansas to the other, you may be a little overwhelmed with meal choices, especially along I-70. We've picked out 9 of our favorite restaurants along this road trip path and think they make a great start to a restaurant road trip checklist.
1. Town's End Tavern - Sharon Springs
Welcome to the westernmost side of the list, where we start with Town's End Tavern, where not only can you get a great plate of food with a brew, but you can also enjoy great times with friends and family. Add on a plate of truffle ribbon fries, and you're golden.
2. Don's Rainbow Drive-In - Oakley
We wouldn't have a real road trip without a diner stop along the way, this time at Don's Rainbow Drive-In. Don's is a great place for no-fuss burgers and diner style food dating back as old as you remember.
3. Martinelli's Little Italy - Salina
In Salina, you'll want to stop in at Martinelli's, a fantastic place if you want spaghetti and giant meatballs or other Italian pasta dishes paired with garlic bread. For dinnertime meals, it can't be beat.
4. Mr. K's Farmhouse Restaurant - Abilene
Mr. K's Farmhouse truly feels like you're dining in a Kansas family home, and they love to keep it that way. Eating here feels like you're eating with family, which is always a treat when you're away from home.
5. Southern Comfort Restaurant - Chapman
Southern Comfort is hiding out in a tiny town, but doesn't serve up tiny flavors. If you love meat-and-potatoes style meals, you'll love eating here every time.
6. Stacy's Restaurant - Junction City
Stacy's is a diner you'll want to keep coming back to, because their breakfast spreads are just that good. If you're traveling early and need a bite to eat, this is an excellent spot to stop.
7. The Wheel Barrel - Topeka
For fans of sandwiches, soups, and more cheese than you can handle, a grilled cheese at The Wheel Barrel is at the top of our list of recommendations. Their unique decorations and bar covered in pennies really brings together this great place for beer and cheese.
8. The Levee Cafe - Lawrence
Another small cafe can never be a bad thing, this time in Lawrence. The Levee is charming on the outside and smells absolutely divine on the inside. It almost smells as good as it tastes!
9. Slap's BBQ - Kansas City
Any Kansas list wouldn't be complete without a barbecue item, and Slap's BBQ in KCK is tough to turn down. Who wouldn't grab a sandwich like this for lunch to go?
What's a great reason to travel from one side of Kansas to the other? Maybe you're headed from KC to Colorado, or maybe you just want an excuse to see our beautiful prairie.
