It's pretty easy to find a historic town in Kansas, considering how many there are that fit that bill. You could close your eyes and put your finger on a map of Kansas and you'd probably land on one. Today's amazing destination happens to be Atchison, Kansas.
A town in the northeast corner of the state, but a torn full of amazing history nonetheless. They have a long list of historic buildings that are both beautiful and sometimes a little scary. Despite rumors of being haunted, Atchison is a great town in the daytime!
It's pretty common to see one event or another going on when you visit, because this town is connected to all sorts of historical figures.
Their love of history is almost unmatched in Kansas, preferring to not only make one museum, but many museums, monuments, and other ways to commemorate those who lived before us.
Amelia Earhart is one of the main ones, having been born right here in Atchison in a house that stands to this day.
Now, it's a bustling museum dedicated to her life and achievements. If only she hadn't gone missing, she'd have continued to change the world.
Then, there's the Atchison Railroad Museum, which is also the start of the AT&SF Railroad.
They display all sorts of rail cars, both from the AT&SF and other railroads.
What you see here isn't just two guys and a dog, it's history painted onto the very brick.
Two more important historical figures in Atchison were Lewis and Clark, adventurers who came through here on their quest to explore unknown territory across pre-America.

In fact, this is a replica of an underground Kanza dwelling. It's also the site where Lewis and Clark camped out in July of 1804, and described an uninhabited Kanza village at this location.
