8 Surprising Things You Never Thought About Doing In Kansas

Discover unique and exciting activities to do in Kansas, from artisan classes to kiteboarding.

Kansas has a lot of activities to do, and places to visit, but there's a lot more than most might think. I bet you've never thought about doing some of these things right here in our state! Check out some of these cool things you can soon learn to do.

1. Take an artisan class

In Lawrence, the Yarn Barn of Kansas is offering lessons for knitting, crochet, and weaving. Why not learn a valuable life skill in a short time? (It's not that hard, I promise!)

2. Learn how to blow glass

At Illuminated Glass in Lawrence, you've got the opportunity to learn the amazing art of blown glass. They're almost all ages, and you could find your new favorite hobby, if you only tried! Check em out at 313 E. 8th Street in Lawrence.

3. Zip your way to a good time

I'm terrified of heights, but these look so fun! It wouldn't be too hard to muster up the bravery needed to strap into one of these, would it? Manhattan isn't that far away!

4. Sail your heart out

I don't know about you, but I've always wanted to learn how to sail. Even if it's with a small crew, I'm still on the water! Ninnescah is who I'd recommend to take you out there!

5. Take a trip through the skies

Old World Balloonery in Overland Park is who I think of when I think balloons. The festival is always gorgeous, why not try getting in one yourself?

6. Get crazy with kiteboarding

Maybe you've always wanted to surf, but you live in the most waveless state ever. For a fee, you can learn how to kiteboard, which is exactly like surfing but you're using windpower instead of waves! There's huge jumps and many a clumsy splash to be had. Good thing Kansas is full of lakes!

7. Take an extra-special drive

Get a Richard Petty driving experience here and learn how to drive a racecar! Can you imagine zooming around in one of these for a living?

8. Walk up to Kansas' Sunflower Mountain

This one is kind of a joke, because it's not crazy exciting. How funny is it that our highest point looks so similar to some of the lowest.

Who wants to do some of these interesting activities? If you're more of a road trip kind of person, I completely understand. Maybe this list can help you with ideas?
