There’s No Community In Iowa More Enchanting And Historic Than East Davenport
East Davenport in Iowa is a historic neighborhood offering a mix of old and new with unique dining and shopping experiences.
Davenport is a beautiful city, one of Iowa's most stunning. Like many of the Hawkeye State's Mississippi River towns, it's an amazing place to visit, engage in water activities, and enjoy some great dining and shopping. However, many people don't know that the most historic neighborhood in Iowa is located right here in Davenport! The Village of East Davenport is one of the state's oldest neighborhoods still - a historic district filled with housing and businesses. The village was founded in 1851 and played a key role as a location for army camps during the Civil War. You can still see many of those old-fashioned buildings standing today - they built things to last back then! However, visiting East Davenport today is a fascinating mix of old and new.
East Davenport is a charming and unique place, with many streets giving the feeling that you've stepped back into the 19th century.
Many buildings, like the old Kuehl Hotel are still standing but have been repurposed into modern businesses or working-class housing.
Around the village, you can see remnants of the old infrastructure - like this historic railroad trestle.
Today, Lindsay Park is a gorgeous urban oasis with an inventive playground for young guests.
But this area was home to some key Union army camps during the Civil War in the 1860s. You can still see a plaque dedicated to those brave men at the park.
The shopping district in the area is definitely unique, with locations like the eclectic Wind Dancer Boutique for artistic clothes and jewelry.
While you're in the area, the best place to eat and drink is definitely Brew - a charming local brewpub with a German-accented menu.
You can have craft beers, flatbreads, and over-the-top bloody marys - but you'll definitely want to start with a massive soft pretzel for the table!
Also make sure to check out The 11th Street Precinct Bar & Grill, a beloved local hangout and watering hole.
You can grab a scrumptious burger and fries, paired with an ice cold beer, as you listen to some live local bands.
