Need to get away for a few days, but can't afford to break the bank? A trip to Boone, Iowa might be just what's called for! From history to beauty to adventure, there's something for everyone in this affordable Iowa town!

Welcome to Boone, Iowa, a small town located in the center of the state that features a delightful mix of history, adventure, recreation, and affordability.

Boone was even named one of the 10 best affordable small towns in the whole nation last year by the folks at Realtor.com!

Start in the downtown area, with a stroll past quaint shops and historic buildings.

The Boone History Center and the Maimie Dowd Eisenhower birthplace are two downtown attractions you don't want to miss!

Then head over to the Boone and Scenic Valley Railroad, which houses the James H. Andrew Railroad Museum.

Admission to the museum starts at just $3 for kids and $8 for teens and adults.

For lunch, pick up pizza (regular or gluten free) and fresh-made donuts from the original Casey's General Store.

Who could have imagined that when this Casey's opened in its converted 3-bay garage, it would be the start of what would grow to be the 5th largest pizza chain in the nation!

Another not-to-be-missed stop in Boone is the Kate Shelley High Bridge and Museum.

The museum is currently closed for repairs, but the museum grounds and the bridge are both open to the public and offer an excellent spot to walk, bike, or picnic.

Just a few miles south of Boone, you can find one of the most popular state parks in Iowa: Ledges State Park.

It features a deep gorge carved into sandstone by Pea's Creek, trails through prairie and woodland, and historic bridges built by the Conservation Corps. As with all state parks in Iowa, admission is free.

And this is just scratching the surface of what you can do in Boone. There's more shopping, dining, and playing options than we have space to list! To learn more about where to stay, where to eat, and what to do, visit the city's Tripadvisor page.

And for another cheap food option, you'll definitely want to try the Dutch Oven Bakery. Yum!
