There's nothing more charming than a small Indiana town with a great waterfront view.
Indiana might be relatively landlocked compared to most states, but we have plenty of rivers (and one pretty big lake) to make up for that. If you're looking for new small towns to explore that have a lot to offer visitors, check out these 10 incredible waterfront towns in the Hoosier state.
1. Aurora
This small Ohio River town offers a peaceful retreat and gorgeous view. If you love quaint, historic towns with old world charm, you'll fall in love with Aurora. Be sure to stop by the Aurora City Park, the Sunset Bay Marina and Campground, the Hillforest Museum, and the Creation Museum, and grab a bite to eat at the lovely Applewood Bar and Grill.
2. Beverly Shores
As part of the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore, you know the tiny town of Beverly Shores won't disappoint. This waterfront town is less crowed than other surrounding beach towns and is also home to the famous Century of Progress Homes, available for touring.
3. Culver
Located along Lake Maxinkuckee (the second largest natural lake in the state), Culver is a picture perfect waterfront town for a day trip. You'll find an eclectic and charming downtown area full of quaint shops and eateries and a ton of water-themed activities like boating and fishing to keep you busy.
4. Brookville
Brookville is another small town with an ideal setting, along Brookville Lake. Come explore this lake up close and enjoy a day full of swimming, volleyball, or relaxing on the beach.
5. Clarksville
This southern Indiana town is located along the Ohio River and has one of the best views in the entire state. Spend a day taking in this natural beauty and visiting the Falls of the Ohio Park, where you can search for fossils, enjoy a family picnic, or simply soak in the tremendous view.
6. Winamac
This lovely rivertown is located along the Tippecanoe and is home to the stunning Tippecanoe State Park. You'll also find the incredible Riverside Rentals here, where you can canoe or tube down this lazy river.
7. Elkhart
Elkhart is situated along the St. Joseph River and has an amazing riverwalk and park where you can enjoy the river up close. Elkhart is also one of the places where you'll find the Quilt Gardens floral displays, as well as the quirky RV Hall of Fame.
8. Madison
If you've never been to Madison, you absolutely have to plan a day trip there soon. This historic, charming town is full of incredible architecture that you'll love exploring. It's also where you'll find Clifty Falls State Park, an incredible park full of trails and waterfalls.
