Franklin Might Just Be The Most Charming And Most Overlooked Downtown In Indiana

Just twenty minutes south of Indianapolis there lies a small town that might just be one of the best in the state. Adorable Franklin, Indiana has been around since its founding in 1823, and ever since, it has prided itself on being one of Indy's most forward-thinking towns.

The whole town is totally cute, but downtown Franklin is one of a kind.

Along King Street and Jefferson Street, walk past the incredibly beautiful Victorian mansions that still stand to this day. They are as beautiful as they are old, and any architectural history buff would absolutely treasure them.

There's a little something for everyone here, from a state-of-the-art high school to a mysterious Masonic temple.

Explore the intricacies of Franklin's history with a visit to the library or even just by browsing the old government buildings.

There are several walking and biking trails in and around town.

Residents keep up with exercise on these routes and, honestly, they're just so gorgeous that they're hard not to explore even when you're not trying to get your 10,000 steps in!

Franklin has lots of things for visitors and residents to do - parks, a water park, and much more can be found here.

There's almost too much to plan for over just one weekend. For a small town, Franklin definitely seems to have big heart.

If you're a movie aficionado, make sure to see the Historic Artcraft Theatre right in the heart of downtown.

Built in 1922, this one-screen wonderhouse seats 625 and specializes in showing 35 mm films. This kind of experience is as unique as Franklin itself is.

In the spring and summer, the weather is beautiful and mild.

During the cold winters, Franklin turns into a wonderland. It's beautiful and certainly worth a visit all year round!

During the summer, check out the breathtaking sunflower farm in Franklin on Hurricane Road.

You read that right- sunflower. Farm. The best part is that from late June into late summer, the flowers are available for picking. Just pay for the flowers you pick!
