Roth Pumpkin Patch is best known this time of year for its Pumpkin Playground. It is operated by a family of farmers that goes back five generations. The current farm began in 2006 with just five acres and now includes 150.

It began in 1984 as The Red Barn Christmas Tree Farm and Christmas Gift Shop, which is located in the same place in Morton as the pumpkin farm. With its rich history and exciting activities, it's easy to see why this local business is considered the best pumpkin patch in Illinois.

Hours are Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. For the 2019 season, the Pumpkin Patch opens in early September, and lasts through October. Keep an eye on the website, linked below, for exact dates as they are released.

Red Barn opens October 1, so for a month, you can shop both fall and Christmas items.

Now for what you've all been waiting for: the Pumpkin Barrel Train. This trackless kiddie ride is steered by a conductor and travels throughout much of the farm.

The pumpkin patch train ride is one of the top attractions, ideal for kids between the ages of two and 12. Though a conductor monitors the train, parental supervision is recommended.

The cost of admission covers the whole playground, including the pumpkin patch train ride. It is $6 on weekdays and a dollar more on weekends for most, while seniors get in for $4 on weekdays ($5 on weekends) and children under age three are always free.
