Marion is a favorite Southern Illlinois getaway situated just north of the Shawnee National Forest in Williamson County where there are still many woods and creeks.

The town's mayor loves the place so much, he's been serving for over 50 years and nicknamed Marion "The Hub of the Universe."

The name is inspired by the plethora of highways that intersect in and around the town making it easy to access for shopping, dining, and more.

Twentieth-century coal fields brought urbanization to this area and are also the namesake for the town's baseball team, the Southern Illinois Miners.

But Marion has much more to offer. This medium sized town is home to just over 17,000 people, but most residents don't just stick to the square. There are other peaceful havens to visit.
