1. Apple picking at Mills Apple Farm
You can pick your own apples at this lovely orchard. Spend the day enjoying hayrides and a bonfire with
pumpkins, cider, pies, and cookies by your side. The farm is open through December and is located at 11477 Pocahontas Road in Marine.
2. Get lost at Richardson "World's Largest" Corn Maze
Each year, this fantastic autumn oasis creates a new design in the corn field for patrons to try to make their way through. Additional things to fill your day include a pumpkin patch, a zipline, treats, and farm animals. Catch the action at 909 English Prairie Road in Spring Grove.
3. View fall foliage at The Morton Arboretum
As the leaves are just about to turn, the place to be is Illinois' very own tree museum. In addition to trees of every color, you'll also be able to enjoy kettle corn, taffy apples, and a pumpkin display. The arboretum is located at 4100 IL-53 in Lisle.
4. Make friends at Randall Oaks Zoo
No matter how old you are, animals are a joy to see and pet. This petting zoo is home to goats, ducks, pigs, turtles, donkeys, and so much more. It is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and is located at 1180 Randall Road in West Dundee.
5. Go hiking at Apple River Canyon State Park
Located at 8763 E Canyon Road in Apple River, this park sits on nearly 300 acres and features trails with views of the river and bluffs. It is the perfect fall photo opportunity for engagements, weddings, families, and more, and there is a lake with a waterfall and a restaurant nearby.
6. Feast at Valley Orchard
You could spend all day eating the goodies at this orchard. It sells apples, berries, honey, apple pies, popcorn, donuts, and various other pastries. Enjoy 35 acres speckled with 5,000 trees here before fall ends. It is located at 811 East State Street in Cherry Valley.
7. Stroll through Starved Rock State Park
Situated on the Illinois River, you can catch lovely views of sandstone canyons, waterfalls, and woodlands here. The preserve covers about a four-mile area and can be accessed at 2668 East 875th Road in Oglesby where there is also lodging.
8. Pick your gourd at The Great Pumpkin Patch
Growing 400 varieties of pumpkins, squash, and gourds, this immense farm sits on 14 acres and features landscaping and gardens plus mazes, museums, and a historic schoolhouse. Guests also enjoy apple cider slushies and ice cream plus baked goods like fresh bread and cinnamon rolls. It is located at 1749A E County Road 1900 N in Arthur.
9. Go on an adventure at Garden of the Gods
Get great fall photos along this system of hiking trails that take you past some of the Shawnee National Forest's most amazing rock formations and bluffs. The area spans about 3,300 acres and contains over five miles of trails. You can access it near Picnic Road in Herod.
