Just a few weeks ago, we wrote an article about Idaho's fall foliage and when the best time to see it would be. Well, that time for peak fall foliage is approaching quickly and you don't want to miss it. Much of Idaho is already covered in beautiful fall colors so if you want to see them at their best, you better plan an adventure soon! This 2-hour fall drive is the perfect way to experience one of Idaho's loveliest autumn landscapes in a short amount of time. If you've been itching for a fall outing, this drive should definitely pique your interest. Take a look!
The Tetons are by far one of Idaho's most underrated treasures. We may technically share them with another state, but their natural beauty is endless all year long. However, they are an especially extraordinary sight during autumn. It's during this time of year that the Tetons are shrouded in fall colors and there's no better way to see them than the Teton Scenic Byway.
The Teton Scenic Byway will lead you along the western slopes of the Teton Mountain Range. The entire trip is approximately 70 miles and should take around 2 to 2.5 hours to complete. This drive provides some of the most stellar views of Idaho's fall foliage and you'll want to see them with your own eyes!
This spectacular fall drive begins in the quaint yet beautiful town of Swan Valley. The byway then takes you to Ashton along Idaho Highways 31, 32, and 33. The byway passes through an abundance of charming small towns such as Victor, Driggs, and Tetonia. In between towns, you'll enjoy large expanses of stunning barley and wheat fields.
The highlight of the drive is the majestic Teton Mountain Range. These rugged mountains dominate the eastern skyline and provide a view that you won't easily forget. During the fall, the base of the mountains are dotted with gorgeous shades of yellow and gold, making the view of the mountains even more glorious.
Not only is this little slice of Idaho bursting with stunning views, but it's considered an extremely historic area as well. During the 1800s, mountain men and fur trappers would gather in the Teton Valley for their iconic "rendezvous". Driving through the area today, you can easily imagine how breathtaking this region must've looked to the first non-native Americans to explore this place.
Further north along the byway, you'll come across the Upper Snake River Valley. During this time of year, the river is surrounded by jaw-dropping fall colors like crimson red and vibrant orange. This drive may take only a couple hours but you'll want to plan some extra time to get out and take pictures of these wonderful vistas.
Although there are plenty of towns along the way where you can stop and replenish supplies, be sure to plan ahead and fill up on gas, water, and food before taking off on this spectacular fall drive. These delightful fall colors should last through October so be sure to plan an outing soon!
