13 Ways To Have The Most Hawaii Day Ever
A quintessential Hawaiian day includes coffee, beach sunrise, acai bowls, surfing, hiking, local food, water sports, shave ice, a luau, sunset, and stargazing.
The perfect Hawaiian day will ultimately be different for everyone, but here at Only In Hawaii, we’ve worked hard to come up with the 13 things you must include to have a truly Hawaiian day. Because Hawaii is so isolated, and you can’t really travel between islands without wasting a decent chunk of time, we’ve stripped the perfect Hawaii day down to general activities you can complete regardless of which island you live on.
To fit all of these activities in, you’ll have to be up before the sun – and head to bed after the sun has already sunk behind the horizon. Are you up for the quintessential Hawaiian day?
1. First things first, head to your favorite coffee shop to grab a cup of Hawaiian grown coffee – to-go, of course!
2. Head to your favorite east-side beach to watch the sunrise over the ocean.
3. For breakfast, you can’t miss one of Hawaii’s famous acai bowls.
4. If you’re into surfing, we definitely suggest an early morning spent catching the waves. If not, consider an early morning snorkeling session.
You can also go straight for the hiking if you've planned on a longer trail, but is there really anything better than an early morning surf session?
5. Now it’s time to lace up those hiking boots and hit the trails.
Hiking in the early morning when the sun isn't as bright will make the whole experience more enjoyable.
6. You’ll want to check out any nearby lookout points, piers, or cool places while you’re in the area.
If you're hiking in Koke'e State Park, be sure to stop by the Waimea Canyon Lookout. It's a short detour - and will give you some great photographs to share with all your friends.
7. You’ve worked up an appetite by now, so grab some spam musubi or one of Hawaii’s famous plate lunches.
8. And now it’s time to relax on the beach. Is there anything better than swimming and laying on the beach?
9. You enjoyed your nap on the beach, and you’re ready for another adventure – your favorite water sport.
My favorites are SUP and kayaking, but it’s totally up to you.
10. Cool off from your afternoon on the water with Hawaii’s favorite sweet treat: shave ice.
11. Head back home – or to your hotel – to take a shower, and then hit up a Hawaiian luau for dinner and a show.
12. Don’t forget that watching the sun set is an absolute must – preferably with a loved one.
13. And finally, look to the beautiful night sky to experience some of the greatest stargazing in the world.
What would you do to have the perfect day? What other activities would you add to this list?
