The Christmas Lights Road Trip Through Hawaii That’s Nothing Short Of Magical
Discover a road trip itinerary to see the best Christmas light displays on Oahu, Hawaii.
What's Christmas like in Hawaii? From Kaneohe and Kailua to Makakilo and Kapolei, Christmas lights completely deck out the beautiful island of Oahu this holiday season. But with so many magical light displays to choose from, where do you even begin? That’s why we’re here - to create a compact and picturesque itinerary across the island to experience some of the best Christmas displays around. For the sake of simplicity - and in consideration of the short amount of time you’re sure to have available this week - we’ve opted for a road trip that takes up little time.
This road trip begins in Honolulu, before traveling through Pearl City, Aiea, and Waikele before ending in Mililani; the entire itinerary brings you to nine magical light displays. Oh, and while you're driving across the island, we bet you'll enjoy listening to these 9 Hawaii Christmas songs.
While our original list is from 2016, these locations still put on amazing light displays to this day.
1. 1248 Wilhelmina Rise, Honolulu
The Akau, Kauffman, and Andrade families spread their holiday cheer nightly throughout the neighborhood with countless inflatables and lights.
2. Honolulu City Lights
The Honolulu City Lights is perhaps the largest Christmas celebration across the state. The event began in 1985 when former Mayor Frank F. Fasi held a free event that featured holiday lights and a concert on the main lawn, and lights that stretched downtown to the civic center. It’s an absolutely worthy stop along this epic road trip.
3. 1553 Miller Street, Honolulu
With more than 60 lighted decorations, from Santas and Snowmen to Minnie and Mickey, Lindy Franca and her family sure do go all out for the holidays.
4. 1036 Hala Drive, Honolulu
Located across from Maluhia nursing facility, and with a view that overlooks the sparkling city lights, this home is sure to impress.
5. 2020 Hillcrest Street, Honolulu
While it is 2020 Hillcrest that is most often referred to as having the best Christmas lights, there are several houses in this neighborhood that go all out for the holidays. Be sure to aimlessly drive around the neighborhood for a few minutes if you make this stop.
6. 99-149 Kulina Street, Aiea
This magical light display is sure to mesmerize you - I can only imagine how many lights it took to create this beautiful masterpiece!
7. 98-1603 Kaahumanu Street, Aiea
The Benozas have been lighting up their Aiea neighborhood for more than 30 years. This year, their back with a carousel, mechanical Santa and Mrs. Clause, as well as trains, reindeer, and candy canes.
8. 94-226 Anapau Place, Waikele

9. Mahinahou Street, Mililani
Three cul-de-sacs off of Meheula Parkway in Mililani light up for the holidays - and make for quite the magical experience.
