I Asked Our AI-Travel Planner For a Weekend Adventure in Atlanta – Here’s What It Created
The itinerary has some classic-for-a-reason Atlanta attractions, some new-to-me restaurants, and plenty more to explore.
Considering I’ve lived much of my life only a state or two away from one of the country’s biggest, most vibrant cities, I’m ashamed to say that I’ve only been there once.
But this summer, Atlanta is calling me back (Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter tour may or may not have something to do with it). With just a day or so to explore the city while I’m not with Queen Bey, I want to make the most of my time in The A—so I asked Only In Your State’s award-winning Dashboard AI planner for an assist with the planning.
The Dashboard planner works by asking you some questions—where and when you’re going and for how long, who you’re going with, and what you’re interested in—and then uses Only In Your State’s vast library of curated travel recs (we’re talking the most unique places to stay, the most engaging activities, and the most delicious, under-the-radar eats) to make some suggestions just for you.
I turned the wheel over to the Dashboard for my upcoming Atlanta trip—here’s the itinerary it created for me.
Where to stay
When it comes to where to stay, the Dashboard understands that different travel styles demand different options. Some of us like the comfort and consistency of a hotel chain we know and love, and a convenient downtown location. Others prefer a private Airbnb outside the city or a quaint, historic bed and breakfast. For me, it depends on the trip, which is why I appreciate that the Dashboard gave me choices.
If I decide to go the hotel route, the Dashboard recommended The Westin Peachtree Plaza, which is right in the heart of downtown Atlanta and boasts a glass elevator ride for unmatched panoramic views of the city leading to the 72nd-story Sun Dial Restaurant. For a bed and breakfast option, there’s Sugar Magnolia, a charming Queen Anne Victorian home situated in Atlanta’s historic Inman Park neighborhood, with modern amenities and a droolworthy breakfast. And for a more secluded, out-of-the-way option, the Dashboard suggested one of Only In Your State’s favorite Atlanta Airbnbs, Archimedes’ Nest at the Emu Ranch, a treehouse located on an actual emu ranch.
What to do
The only thing I remember from my one and only trip to Atlanta during middle school was just how much I was in awe of the Georgia Aquarium, the largest aquarium in the United States, with its beluga whales, African penguins, and no less than seven species of sharks. I was already planning to go back, so I’m glad the Dashboard agreed with that choice. (Fingers crossed I’ll be there at the right time to experience one of their aquarium sound bath events.)
Another Dashboard recommendation that I’ll definitely be taking: The Atlanta Botanical Garden (the Kendeda Canopy Walk sounds incredible). On the other hand, the Dashboard made one recommendation that isn’t quite right for me. Fetch Park sounds awesome—it’s a membership-based, staffed dog park with lots of safety features for the pups, and a full bar for their humans. The only problem? I don’t have a dog.
Where to eat
Visiting Atlanta without eating some soul food would just be wrong. Thankfully, the Dashboard recommended several restaurants serving up the good stuff: Metro Deli Soul Food, Old Lady Gang Southern Eatery, and Breakfast at Barney’s. For a more upscale dinner, I may check out By George, which sounds swanky and delicious. And for a late-night bite, Joystick Gamebar, an arcade serving fun snacks like crab rangoon and bulgogi tacos, might be fun.
The verdict
Other than recommending a dog park to a dogless woman, the Dashboard did a great job with this itinerary, and my trip to Atlanta is officially planned. If you’re traveling to Atlanta—or anywhere else, for that matter—check out the Dashboard, and see if it helps you discover any new places you love.
