This route will take visitors up through the mountains, deep into the Chattahoochee National Forest.

You’ll pass by sections of the Appalachian Trail, plus drive through Alpine Helen, Georgia, which is a worthwhile stop always.

Perhaps the highlight of the entire trip is when you head up to Brasstown Bald, the highest mountain in the state.

In order to access the Russell Brasstown Scenic Byway, you’ll take Interstate 985 north to Highway 23, then follow State Route 384. Take State Route 75 north up along the byway.

Make sure to bring a camera, prepare some good tunes, and pinpoint some places of interest to stop along the way.

This breathtaking experience is approximately 41 miles long, so ultimately you can spend all day driving, taking your time through it all.
