What is known to outsiders as Martin Highway is known to locals as "The Grade" and this 12-mile road is pure scenery.

The history of The Grade dates back quite some time, although the roads back then weren’t half as well-maintained as they are now.

Taking a scenic drive along this 12-mile jaunt, especially on a sunny day will prove to be quite the experience.

The road happens to be shaded by a canopy of the most beautiful hundred-year-old oak trees around.

Not to mention the rest of the drive will have guests surrounded by orange groves, farms, pastures, swamps, woodlands and so much more.

Much of the area around The Grade is untouched, which means that it is exactly as it was when it was discovered by early settlers.

The trek may seem short to some as The Grade officially ends in Okeechobee County at Lake Okeechobee.

Ending at one of the largest freshwater bodies in the United States—doesn’t get much better than that.
