4. Lake St. Clair Metropark
Who doesn’t love a good beach day? We Detroiters need a little rest and relaxation from time to time, and the beach is an ideal spot to chill out. When the weather is warm, Lake St. Clair Metropark offers soft sand, a public beach, and plenty of space to stretch your legs. Pull that swimsuit out of storage and get ready to lounge on the shoreline all day — just don’t forget the sunscreen! Make the 45-minute journey by car from Detroit to Birmingham when you’re ready to enjoy some real small-town charm without venturing too far from home. 9. Meadow Brook Hall
Step back in time with an impressive day trip to Meadow Brook Hall, a massive Tudor-style estate in Rochester that boasts 1,500 acres of land and a whopping 88,000 square foot mansion.
