1. Denver Art Museum
Housed in two architecturally spectacular buildings, the Denver Art Museum fills your visual senses before even stepping through the doors. Inside, you won't be dissapointed as you are treated to the world's greatest collection of Native American art, as well as works from European masters, Old West classics, and outstanding traveling exhibits.
2. Union Station
Denver's iconic Union Station is not only a major ground transportation hub, it is also home to several amazing restaurants, bars, and shops. From the Terminal Bar, which is located in the station's old ticket windows, to the popular Tattered Cover Bookstore, the Union Station has become a vibrant gathering space for both locals and those traveling through.
3. Colorado State Capitol Building
You can begin your visit to the Colorado State Capitol Building by standing on the west steps that are sitting at 5,280 feet above sea level (one mile high). Next, make your way to the rotunda to enjoy a panoramic view of snow capped peaks. To get an inside look at the Capitol Building, take part in one of their free 45-minute tours which are offered on weekdays.
4. 16th Street Mall
Take a stroll, hop on a free bus, or hitch a ride on a horse-drawn carriage after dark and see the sights of the mile long 16th Street Mall. With over 50,000 flowers and 200 trees, this beautiful outdoor Mall is filled to the brim with exciting sights as well as delicious options at its more than 40 outdoor cafes.
5. Downtown Aquarium
With more then one million gallons of spectacular exhibits, the Downtown Aquarium will ensure you will experience marine life like never before. Touch and feed a stingray, watch the mermaid show, or dine in the restaurant with a 50,000 gallon aquarium that sits as a centerpiece and is filled with more than 100 species of colorful tropical fish.
6. The Denver Center for Performing Arts
If you are looking to be entertained, buy a ticket to a show at the Denver Center for Performing Arts where you are sure to have an unforgettable experience. Part of a sprawling center that is home to 10 performance spaces, the DCPA is a must visit for live theater and is a preferred stop on the Broadway touring circuit.
7. The Brown Palace
Built in 1892, the luxurious Brown Palace Hotel is a downtown icon rich in history and tradition. Even if you don't plan to stay overnight in one of their 241 upscale rooms, I highly recommend taking part in the long-standing tradition of Afternoon Tea. You will delight in delicacies including tea sandwiches, scones and pastries as you sip on tea and listen to the sounds of the harp or piano in the background. This delicious experience is offered daily at the Brown Palace from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
8. Larimer Square
Covered by its signature canopy of lights, Larimer Square is home to an enticing mix of boutiques, chef-driven restaurants and exciting nightlife. Locals and visitors alike flock to Denver's oldest and most historic block to experience the city's culture at its best.
9. Coors Field
Take in a game at Coors Field to savor both a great baseball game and also a stunning view of the Rocky Mountains to the west. The newest highlight of Coors Field is the Rooftop. This complete renovation and redesign of the upper right-field seating area promises phenomenal views of the downtown skyline and the Front Range, as well as an array of premium bars and eateries.
10. Confluence Park
If you find yourself at this urban park where the Cherry Creek and South Platte River meet, you will be immersed in outdoor recreation admired by locals and visitors alike. On a warm day, it's nice to dip your toes in the water and watch the kayakers brave the rapids against the backdrop of the Denver city skyline. Or, if you're feeling more energetic you can get moving on one of the many picturesque trails for walkers, runners, and bicyclists.
With more than 300 days of sunshine per year here in the Mile High City, you have no excuse but to get out and explore all that vibrant Downtown Denver has to offer.
