The One Small Town In Connecticut That Transforms Into A Terrifying Halloween Wonderland
Wallingford is a town in central Connecticut that has a mixture of rural farms, suburban neighborhoods, a large amount of retail and shopping locations, and a bustling main street with shops and restaurants. But tucked away in the back of the industrial park is an absolutely terrifying place in the woods that comes to life each autumn. The Trail of Terror celebrates the spookiest and scariest part of Halloween with a haunted attraction that has drawn thrill seekers for more than 20 years. This, paired with the community's haunted history, makes Wallingford the best Halloween town in Connecticut.
The Trail of Terror began as a pretty elaborate Halloween display in the front yard of Wayne Barneschi. It moved out of the front yard to its own location in 1995. After 23 years of growth, it has become one of the most frightening destinations in New England.
The trail is located in four acres of woods and houses several buildings, abandoned vehicles and many other scary suprises. There are more than 30 interactive scenes of horror for you to experience.
It takes about an hour to make your way through the entire trail. Don't forget to check behind you often because you never know who may join your group.
Make sure you wear comfortable clothing, you may have to crawl, crouch or slide to get through some portions of the trail.
Always keep your eyes open, you never know if it's a stuffed dummy or a real person lurking in the shadows, sometimes it is hard to tell!
More than 200 volunteers each night show up to be converted into zombies, skeletons, mad scientists and more. And yes there is a monster running around with a chainsaw, so beware!
Guests often comment on the high quality and detail of the scenery and displays. The trail can make ordinary objects into horrifying sights.
As you wait in line, you will often be spooked by characters that drift around the entranceway or come out of the woods as you wait for your turn.
The terrifying trail is open Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights in October. It is probably a good idea to buy tickets online in advance, as this spooktacular attraction sells out quickly.
A portion of the proceeds from the Trail of Terror is given to charity each year. The trail has raised over $700,000 for the American Red Cross and has also donated thousands of dollars to local shelters, churches, fire departments and other worthy causes in the Wallingford community.
The Trail of Terror is not for the faint of heart, but if you enjoy being scared, spooked or even downright terrified, then this is the place for you!
