The world-famous Skunk Train is one of the better-known day trips in Northern California by rail. There are several different options to choose from. The Pudding Creek Express runs about 75 minutes and 7 miles. You'll travel through the beautiful Pudding Creek Estuary and see loads of old-growth redwood forests. The train's name comes from the original gas engines, which could be smelled long before they were actually seen. This was originally built as a logging train and much of the scenery is the exact same as when the lumberjacks passed through this area decades ago. The Skunk Train also offers a couple of fascinating railbike experiences that are really unique. Learn more about taking a trip on the iconic Skunk Train.
