Here Are 12 Things You Better Have If You Want To Survive In Southern California

If you've lived in Southern California as long as I have, you know there are a few things you need in order to survive around here. In case you need a reminder of the SoCal essentials, here's a handy cheat sheet to get you back on track. It's a tough life living in such a glorious place, but someone's gotta do it!

1. Hiking boots...

Or good walking shoes to scale all the beautiful mountains that surround us in every direction.

2. You must have a car...

3. Or a bike...

For any serious errands see # 2. You'll definitely need a car if you live here.

4. Casual Wear

Every day is casual Friday in SoCal. Stock up on shorts, jeans, t-shirts and sundresses.

5. Succulents

If you have room for a garden, make sure you're planting succulents in order to conserve our precious water.

6. Sunglasses are an essential part of the SoCal wardrobe.

Not only do they protect your eyes from the burning rays, but they also make you look super cool.

7. Swimming Pool

Okay, this isn't exactly essential, but it's definitely on the wish list. There's nothing like jumping into a pool on a hot summer day. So refreshing!

8. Sunscreen...and lots of it.

Even when it's May Gray and June Gloom in Southern California, the burning rays still sneak through the clouds, so make sure to protect your skin.

9. A SoCal state of mind

We're a laid back bunch, so it never hurts to loosen up and have some fun. Plus, when you live in this corner of the world, it's hard not to smile.

10. Flip-Flops

When other parts of the country require snow boots, we're still lounging around in our beach sandals. This is the life!

11. A fitness routine

Bathing suit season is pretty much year-round in Southern California. A fitness routine is an absolute must around here to burn off those calories and get ready for the beach.

12. A big floppy hat

Sun protection is serious business around here. Trust me! See # 8.

Do any of these things ring a bell? If there's anything that was left out, make sure to let me know so I can add it to my SoCal shopping list.
