It’s amazing that something so simple, like a colorful flower blooming for a few seconds, can have such a powerful impact on my soul. Obviously, the most beautiful things exist in nature - in my very humble opinion.
If you find yourself feeling gloomy or out of sync, allow me to add some sunshine to your life. Here are some of the most colorful places in Arkansas that will brighten your day. To take it to another level, I’ll even provide some tips on when to visit for the best color and light. Photographers, influencers, and nature lovers, this one is for you.
What Makes Arkansas So Colorful?

No matter the season, you can find color inspiration in Arkansas. For spring and summer, wildflowers bloom everywhere you go. Flower farms like Mount Olive Farms in Gravette and wildflower fields are always glowing with pretty little blossoms. Fall is magical as the foliage transforms to bright red, yellow, and orange hues. Of course, winter brings its own subtle beauty with muted sunsets, and I love it when the snow makes the landscapes glisten. Did I mention that the sunsets will melt your heart? There is a reason why Arkansas is called the Natural State - it’s truly beautiful. Check out some of the most colorful places to visit in Arkansas.
1. Garvan Woodland Gardens, Hot Springs
Spring is the cheeriest season; it’s when everything comes back to life after winter's hibernation. So, it's easy to find bursts of color all around. But there is one spot that is by far the most beautiful in Arkansas - Garvan Woodland Gardens. From March to April, the gardens come alive with an explosion of vibrant tulips. With over 150,000 purple, yellow, pink, white, orange, and more bulbs, the garden is like a magical wonderland full of springtime cheer. Every year, many folks travel from near and far to take pictures inside this lovely haven. Honestly, it’s a no-brainer why this is the most colorful place in Arkansas in spring.
2. Cherokee Prairie Natural Area, Charleston
During summer, I am all about nature walks along hiking trails. The beauty of Arkansas is that you don’t have to put too much effort into finding fields of cheery wildflower meadows. They’re everywhere! From purple coneflower to primrose to black-eyed Susans to blazing stars, and more, these blooms bring life to the state during late May and into June. One of our favorite places to see summer wildflowers in Arkansas is at Cherokee Prairie Natural Area. And since this wildlife preserve has no designated trails, you can freely skip across the open grasslands, which will only add more joy to your day. Naturally, butterflies and songbirds are abundant here, so be on the lookout for them. This is the kind of destination that will make your heart feel lighter.
3. Petit Jean State Park, Morrilton
I think Petit Jean State Park is one of the most colorful places to visit in Arkansas in the fall. It’s a hotspot for nature photographers, and I am sure many of you reading have taken pictures here, too. The foliage is some of the most brilliant in the state, and set against the backdrop of the towering Ceder Falls and the Arkansas River, it’s simply mesmerizing. Not to mention the warm sunsets that are nature’s artwork in the sky. The best time to visit? From late October through mid-November, but of course, since Mother Nature is unpredictable, colors can vary during the season. The Smoky Mountains fall foliage map will be your best guide. And you can also check out this fall foliage road trip for more inspiration.
4. River Lights in the Rock, Little Rock

It’s safe to say that winter in Arkansas is the least colorful season. Once the foliage falls, the wildflowers disappear, and the sky becomes gray, we can find ourselves yearning for ways to brighten our moods. Luckily, as nature loses its shine, humans are here to the rescue.
The River Lights in the Rock public art project creates an eye-catching scene that can surely lift our spirits in the frosty season. Thousands of LED lights transform the Main Street, Junction, and Clinton Presidential Park bridges into visually striking man-made wonders after dark. With the Little Rock Skyline in the backdrop and the glowing reflection on the Arkansas River, it’s easy to see why this is one of the most photographed spots in Arkansas. Photographers will gather at North Little Rock Riverfront Park or along the Arkansas River Trail to capture mesmerizing views of sunsets and the glistening riverfront.
Bonus: The Unexpected Project, Fort Smith
I have always admired street art, from the gritty graffiti in NYC to the colorful murals across the country. I think these pieces are creative artistic expressions telling unique stories. The murals in Fort Smith are part of a large-scale urban initiative called The Unexpected Project. Most are located in downtown Fort Smith along Garrison Avenue. For more fun, download the map and turn this into a scavenger hunt day trip. With about 30 murals and sculptures, you’ll have plenty to see. Influencers and street photographers, the cool street art will add so much life to your Instagram.
