This middle-of-nowhere hideaway offers a weekly fish fry on Thursday nights, plus mouthwatering steak dinners every Friday and Saturday. What started off as a place for locals to gather and eat steak and seafood on the weekends has become a statewide sensation.
Located about an hour northeast of College Station on Highway 75, the Leona General Store is a blast from the past with some of the most delicious home cooking you'll ever eat.
The interior is exactly what you'd expect from a small-town Texas restaurant.
Cowboy hats, vintage memorabilia, and taxidermy cover the walls, the roof is made of metal, and the tables boast wooden chairs and country-chic, red and white checkered tablecloths.
Served every Friday and Saturday night, the meal features a hand-cut ribeye (10 ounces is the standard portion, but you can get a bigger steak for $1.75 per each additional ounce), salad, homemade rolls, and cheesy mashed potatoes. Grilled chicken is available as a substitute!
Coated in the general store's signature rub and seared to perfection, the steaks are juicy and succulent as can be.
If you have any room left for dessert, you're in for a real treat. There's cobbler, pie, banana pudding, and chocolate fudge brownies - something to satisfy every sweet tooth!
