Have you ever seen a ghost? If not, we know where you can find one. Presidio La Bahía, located in Goliad, is a historic Spanish fort that played a key role in two bloody battles. It’s also said to be one of the most haunted places in Texas! Those who are brave enough can actually spend the night on the grounds of the mission. You’ll get the whole place to yourself after dark…but you won’t be alone.
One of the oldest and most historic buildings in Texas, Presidio La Bahía in Goliad is a Spanish fort that was founded in 1721 on the ruins of the failed French Fort Saint Louis.
Moved to its current location in 1747, the fort was the site of two incredibly bloody battles: the Battle of Goliad in October 1835, and the Goliad Massacre in March 1836.
Today, you can visit the fort and its chapel for a self-guided tour...or extend your stay overnight (if you're brave enough, that is).
Known as "The Quarters," this small apartment on the grounds of the presidio formerly housed diocesan priests and fort officers.

Upon stepping inside, you'll feel as if you've descended into an underground catacomb - minus the dust and cobwebs, and with the addition of modern amenities, we should note.
The Quarters have been painstakingly restored to their original condition (or as close to it as possible). It's a truly remarkable feat of architecture!
At night, curling up in front of the stone fireplace and telling ghost stories is a must.
You could chalk it up to heightened senses or confirmation bias...but with so many people seeing and hearing the exact same things, there must be a shred of truth.
Perhaps the neatest part of your stay is the unique opportunity to explore the mission after hours.
You'll have access to the entire inner courtyard, enjoying free rein of the historical site with no one else around. Who knows what you'll see?

Considering how many lives were lost here - and the brutal way in which the deaths occurred - it should come as no surprise that the place is allegedly crawling with ghosts.
Even if you don't encounter any spirits, simply being immersed in so much history is a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
