The Tamales From Casa Masa, An Unassuming North Texas Pop-Up Restaurant, Are Made Using Cherished Family Recipes

Tamales are most popular around Christmastime here in Texas, but they never really go out of season. Next time the craving strikes, you've gotta head to Dallas and try Casa Masa, a pop-up restaurant with some of the very best tamales in the state. The owner uses recipes that have been in the family for generations, so you know the food has to be delicious.

Owned and operated by John Hernandez, Casa Masa is an unassuming pop-up with some of the best tamales in Texas.

Hernandez uses cherished family recipes passed down over generations, and you can taste the time-honored tradition in every bite.

The tamales come in several different varieties, from brisket to green chile chicken and everything in between.

You'll also see vegetarian and vegan options on the menu, including nopales and the ever-popular "Virtuous Veggie," featuring zucchini, carrots, squash, kale, roasted corn, and peppers.

Among the crowd favorites is the "Abuela's" tamal, which uses Hernandez' grandmother's special picadillo, or beef and pork, blend.

It's perfectly spiced and has just the right amount of kick, guaranteeing love at first taste for all.

Some of the dishes are less traditional, putting a modern spin on the classic dish.

Take this supersized ancho chile barbecue brisket tamal, for example. Served open-faced with topped with queso and fresh pico de gallo, it's pure heaven for your taste buds.

Casa Masa sells their tamales in packs of six.

The cost is $12 per pack (save for the "TX Star" tamales, which cost $16.)

You can find the pop-up at Peticola's Brewing Co in Dallas every Saturday from noon until 3 p.m.
