Only about 1,300 people live in this tiny Texas town, but it’s full of adventures. Take a breezy 45-minute drive northwest of Austin and experience the simple life. Bertram, Texas was founded in 1882 and operated as a quaint cotton shipping point in the early 1900s. You can still feel its classic charm as you walk the streets today. The Bertram Train Depot stands as a lovely little reminder of days gone by. The original train depot was built in 1882 and operated until 1937. The site was sadly demolished in 1964, and it sat vacant for several decades. Thanks to the Austin Steam Train Association, Bertram has their beautiful train station back! The organization got their hands on a vintage 1912 train depot from Orange Grove, Texas in the late '90s. They decided that Bertram was the perfect spot for this Texas relic. Today, the train depot serves customers on the Hill Country Flyer trains. You can still see the original cast iron and wood bench inside.
This single-screen movie theater dates all the way back to 1935. It reopened in 2015 as a nostalgic movie theater and live music venue. Try a tasty salmon salad or scrumptious ham sandwich any day of the week. If you come by on a Sunday, however, you definitely need to order their special meal. The menu changes weekly, but it's always positively mouthwatering. Past dishes have included chipotle pulled pork sandwiches with jalapeno coleslaw and chuckwagon baked beans. Flanigan's Texas Distillery and Winery is located at 330 N Lampasas St.
The picturesque views will give you goosebumps. There's no better place to watch a Texas sunset than on the porch at Pilot Knob Vineyard. Head over to 3125 County Rd. 212 to soak up the beauty.
