This Old Train Station In Nashville Is Actually A Restaurant And It’s Amazing
If you’ve been to downtown Nashville, then you’ve seen the ever iconic Union Station. It’s situated at the very head of Broadway, a strong sentinel to the heart of the city. But have you been inside…? The stunning former train station is known for its beautiful aesthetic and fantastic restaurants. A top wedding venue, you can even get married behind these doors. The hotel is currently in the middle of a $15.5 million dollar renovation and features 125 individually-decorated guest rooms.
The restaurant Carter's is right off the lobby and features southern dishes with a modern twist. There are currently no up-to-date photos of the spot, as it so recently replaced Prime 108, the famed restaurant of old.
But that's alright - we all need a little bit of mystery, right?
The new restaurant (opened in late 2016) also boasts a two-sided bar and sharable plates. Plus? They have their own barrel of Jack Daniel's whiskey. Yes, please.
Union Station was operable as a train station in 1900, and eventually played out in the late 70s. This photo was taken in 1943.
Did you know that the track level of the train station once held 2 alligator ponds? Yikes...
It was re-purposed and opened as a hotel 1986 and has undergone more than $20 million in renovations to restore the existing features and put in some new, luxurious ones as well.
One of the best parts about the hotel is that it's only blocks from the hub of downtown activity. The lobby is also a truly awe-inspiring work of art. There's a 65-foot barrel-vaulted ceiling and 100-year-old Tiffany stained glass.
That makes for a stunning aesthetic, wouldn't you say?
Ah, and before we leave you with with wonderful addition to your bucket list - Famed mob boss Al Capone once famously traveled through Union Station as he was being transported to a penitentiary in Georgia. We'll be making reservations at Carter's ASAP! You'll be eating a bit of southern history, folks.
