You’ll Never Guess What Halted Construction On This Wyoming Campus. It’s Chilling.

Construction rarely runs on schedule. From weather delays to supply mix-ups to scheduling conflicts with the subcontractors, there are a million little things that can pop up and hinder the process. From time to time, something truly unexpected and even chilling occurs that takes everyone off guard.

That's exactly what happened back in the early 1940s when the University of Wyoming's campus was being expanded. Several bodies were unearthed during excavation for a dormitory, bringing construction to a halt. It would be several years before the building was completed, but rumors of a haunting still circulate to this day.

Founded in 1886 before Wyoming was even a state, the University of Wyoming is an integral piece of state history.

Sitting on 785 acres in Laramie, the campus features a collection of buildings new and old, with some dating back as far as 1886.

Knight Hall is among the older buildings at UW. It was originally built to be a women's dorm.

Built from beautiful Wyoming sandstone, construction began on Knight Hall in 1940.

The western part of the building went up without any significant problems, but when excavation started on the eastern section, a chilling discovery was made.

Several bodies were found buried on the site and construction on that section of the building had to be halted, at least temporarily.

It was determined that the land that had been designated for the dormitory was actually where an old cemetery had been.

The bodies were taken to Greenhill Cemetery where they were reburied.

Work never stopped on the western half of the building, and it was ready for use by 1941. Work on the eastern half of Knight Hall resumed after the bodies were relocated, but that section of the building wouldn't be completed for 5 more years.

Knight Hall is still in use, though it was converted into administrative offices in the early 1970s. Ghost sightings have been reported throughout the years, landing the historic building on the list of haunted Wyoming places.

The manifestations seem to be divided among the floors of the building. Native American apparitions and drum beating are most often reported in the basement. Some have heard wailing on the second floor and seen spectral faces peering in the windows. After dark, a heavy presence invades the third floor, causing people to feel as if they're being watched.
