This Wisconsin Resort Is The Picture Perfect Place To Unplug And Unwind

One hardly thinks luxury or romantic escape when they think of northern Wisconsin, but this resort near Chetek is looking to defy all your expectations.

Canoe Bay is on 300 acres of what used to be a children's summer camp, there are three private, spring-fed lakes, plenty of hiking paths and, of course, the canoes in their name.

Canoe Bay's location may have once been the milieu of children, but today they're no longer allowed.

This resort is adults-only and it's meant to be an absolute and indulgent escape.

All the accomodations are meant to meld with the forest and give you peace and tranquility.

What used to be a big mess hall now houses a gorgeous lodge with a dining room overlooking one of the lakes. Much of the food comes directly from their garden and their wine list is one of the best you'll find anywhere.

There's wi-fi and even a big TV in the lodge, but the goal here is to unplug and unwind. Take long strolls in the woods or take advantage of their big library.

Find some peace out on one of the lakes in the provided canoes.

The resort is actually open year-round and there's just as much to do in winter.

You can go snowshoeing or cross-country skiing on their private trails before returning to your room and having a massage. You can even sign up for a romantic sleigh ride in the winter.

Breakfast and lunch arrive at your doorstep in boxes made by local Mennonite craftsmen. Dinner is in the main dining room, but you can opt for a chef's table or wine cellar option. There's an understated elegance and an unpretentiousness to this place while it still anticipates your every need.

You'll be hard-pressed to remember you're outside a tiny Wisconsin town as you revel in the rest, relaxation, comfort and pampering at this amazing resort.

It's definitely a splurge, but a weekend at Canoe Bay is a break from reality and you'll never regret the time you spent here.

Located at W16065 Hogback Rd, Chetek, WI 54728.
