The property has a long history as an escape. In early 1900s, the property was purchased by Arthur Andrews, a grain merchant from Minneapolis – he used it as a family retreat. The property was named “Hunt Hill” after his wife’s family.
In 1954, the lone surviving heir to the property donated the land to the National Audubon Society so it could become a nature education center. Today it offers educational programming and events.
The expansive property covers nearly 600 acres and it’s wild and gorgeous. It has 13 miles of hiking trails, restored native prairie plants, two footbridges, and two historic cabins.
The preserve's two rustic rental cabins are on a hill overlooking a lake and the forest. One of the rentals is an authentic log cabin that was built in the 1930s. The second cabin was built back in 1917.
