This Forest Cabin Is Near Apostle Islands National Lakeshore
This cabin rental near Cornucopia, Wisconsin, is nestled in the woods. It's a perfect base camp for your Apostle Islands adventures.
While they may not call it a "national park" (yet!), Apostle Islands National Lakeshore is, for all intents and purposes, Wisconsin's national park—and it's a stunner. The park encompasses 21 of the 22 Apostle Islands (Madeline Island is its own thing) that scatter out from the Bayfield Peninsula at the northernmost tip of the state, as well as a good chunk of the peninsula's shoreline. Known for its sea caves, hiking trails, and impossibly clear water, Apostle Islands National Lakeshore is a popular year-round destination.
The town of Bayfield is a popular staging area for exploring the Apostle Islands, but I prefer the quieter side of the peninsula and the charming village of Cornucopia. You won't find streets lined with t-shirt shops and throngs of tourists, but you will find a collection of charming local businesses, including Wisconsin's oldest general store, and one of the best beaches on Lake Superior. In fact, you can stay just steps from the beach at this charming Airbnb in the Wisconsin Northwoods.
With one bedroom and one bath, this little cabin in the woods is perfect for a couple's getaway or a solo retreat to decompress from the daily grind. Although it may appear quaint and rustic from the outside, don't let that fool you. The interior is sleek and modern, with an open floor plan and a minimalist aesthetic that emphasizes views of the natural beauty surrounding the cabin. Large windows make you feel like you're part of the landscape, even if you're simply sitting on the sofa and sipping a cup of coffee or preparing a meal in the well-equipped kitchen (which is outfitted with modern appliances and the utensils you'll need during your stay).
But you didn't come to this cabin for the interior, you're here for the outdoor spaces. When you're not off exploring the Apostles, you'll find plenty of ways to enjoy the outdoors right here at your rental property. On those cooler Lake Superior mornings, start your day off right with a session in the barrel sauna. (Robes and slippers are provided.) In the evenings, enjoy a crackling bonfire while gazing up at the stars, or sit on the screen porch with your beverage of choice and listen to the night sounds of the woods.
On warm days, grab the provided beach gear—umbrella, towels, chairs—and walk eight minutes along a nature trail from the cabin to beautiful, sandy Corny Beach. There, you can enjoy the sun while cooling off in the always-brisk water of Lake Superior.
One of my favorite features of the cabin is that it's only minutes away from Meyers Beach and its gorgeous sea caves, as well as the Lakeshore Trail trailhead. So what are you waiting for?
