There's never a need to leave the state of Washington for the ultimate vacation. In fact, some of the most charming and delightful hotels are a few hours away, at most, from your front door. From our European-themed bed & breakfast to our haunted historic properties, you'll find the ultimate staycation here no matter what you're looking for.
And if what you're looking for happens to be a boutique hotel with a lot of character that sits in the heart of one of our most beloved little cities, look no further than Hotel Leo. This is a historic property, but the amenities are as modern as can be.
Hotel Leo is located at 1224 Cornwall Ave. in downtown Bellingham.
The property offers a unique combination of hotel lodging in the south wing and apartment residences in the tower.
While this hotel opened in 2019, the property itself dates all the way back to 1889, when it was the Byron Hotel.
From 1929 to 1985 it was known as Hotel Leopold, and after a lengthy break, it was lovingly restored and renovated.
The property is in a prime location, overlooking the city and Bellingham Bay.
Imagine how exciting it would be to call this place home.
When you stay here, you'll want to plan at least one cozy night in.
Borrow a book from the library, play some pool, workout at the fitness center, or see what's showing in the private theater, which is named after a former guest named Clark Gable (you might have heard of him).
The rooms are sleek and modern, featuring art from local artists.
You can also stay in a historic economy room or a much more spacious Grand Room, some of which have kitchens.
The hotel also has an on-site speakeasy called Amendment 21.
Located in the upper lobby, this 21 and over establishment is a local hot spot.
The bar has a small but tasty food menu, local beer and wine, and plenty of craft cocktails.
It's the perfect place to start the evening with some shared snacks or end it with a nightcap (or two).
Hotel Leo is a true hospitality hub.
This is a great place to stay on a weekend in Bellingham.
Do you prefer to stay in modern hotels or historic spaces? Fortunately, Hotel Leo is a little bit of both.
