This Beautiful Utah Campground Is Just Minutes From Civilization But If Feels Like A Whole Other World

No matter where you live in Utah, you're less than an hour away from excellent outdoor recreation, and even in our largest city, you can get away to a mountain oasis in just minutes. Here's a campground that's just a few miles from civilization, but you'll feel like you're in a whole other world:

Take a short drive up Little Cottonwood Canyon to find a beautiful forest with campgrounds.

To reach Little Cottonwood Canyon, take I-215 to the 6200 South exit and drive south to Wasatch Bouldevard. Drive south for about a mile, then take Little Cottonwood Canyon Highway four miles to the campground.

Tanners Flat Campground is a picturesque campground in the mountains. You're only four miles from the homes and businesses on Wasatch Boulevard, but you'll be surrounded by natural beauty.

The campground sits right on the banks of Little Cottonwood Creek, which provides the bubbling soundtrack for your stay.

During early summer months, Little Cottonwood Creek may have flood warnings due to snow melt. Contact the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache Ranger District or visit its website to check before heading out.

There's even a pretty little waterfall right near some of the campsites.

You'll find 38 campsites here - 31 single, 3 double, and 4 group sites.

Single campsites cost $26 and can accommodate up to eight people. Double sites are $53 for up to 16 people, and group sites are $105-$175 per night for 25 or 50 people.

None of these campsites have hookups, but you'll have a picnic table and fire ring so you can make dinner, then roast some marshmallows for s'mores.

Tuck your tent into the trees and enjoy the fresh air.

No tent? No problem! Bring your hammock and sleep under the leafy tree canopy.

Tanners Flat has drinking water and both flush and vault toilets. Otherwise, it's a pretty rustic camping experience here.

We'd love to tell you that this campground is a little-known place that you'll have all to yourself, but there's a trade off for being so close to the city. You'll likely share this campground with many others during your stay.

No matter - the scenery is beautiful, and perhaps you'll make some new friends! If you'd like to have a little bit more peace and quiet, camp during the week when it's often not quite as crowded.
