Texas is a camper's paradise - whether you like roughing it in a tent or pampering yourself at with a glamping vacation, there's something for everyone. I tend to like something in the middle; a place that doesn't feel super primitive but also isn't too fancy or glamorous, and Sparrow Bend River Retreat near Lakehills strikes the nail on the head. This little slice of Hill Country paradise offers tent and RV campsites as well as rental homes, so no matter what type of camper you are, you'll love it here. Guests enjoy plenty of creature comforts, but the connection to nature that camping is all about is still present (and in no short supply, either!).
With eight acres of private frontage along the beautiful Medina River, Sparrow Bend River Retreat is a magical getaway that allows campers to let go of the world and become immersed in the stunning natural beauty of the Texas Hill Country.
Both tent and RV sites are available; some are riverfront while others are further back in the forest. Amenities include restrooms, potable water, showers, and picnic tables.
The RV sites are full hookup and accommodate any size rig. As they say, "home is where you park it!"
If you don't have an RV and aren't keen on tent camping, Sparrow Bend also has two beautiful cottage homes for rent. Pictured here is the larger of the two, known as Casa Topo.
This 4-bed, 2-bath retreat sleeps up to 12 guests and features a spacious kitchen, cozy living area, and private riverfront beach for swimming, tubing, kayaking, and fishing.
Don't need that much space? Casa Avecita is a charming tiny home that sleeps four guests, offering one full bedroom and a high-quality pullout couch. It's cheaper and still offers many of the same creature comforts that Casa Topo does - just in a more intimate space.
Kayaks and inner tubes are available to rent on-site, so you can enjoy some lovely time on the water during your stay.
Provided there is no burn ban in place, you can make a campfire in your designated fire pit (each campsite has one - even the homes!).
Firewood is available for purchase at the campground.
Just picture it: a secluded escape that is so far removed from the hustle and bustle of the big city, even deer feel safe enough to frolic amongst the trees.
With nothing standing between you and nature, you can truly recharge your spirit and leave feeling brand new.
