This Lakefront Retreat in Texas Is the Ultimate Summer Send-Off

Shadow Bend at Live Oak Lake is the best end-of-summer getaway in Texas. This luxury cabin offers modern amenities while being just steps away from the water.

Every year, I try to plan an epic end-of-summer getaway in Texas to give the season the farewell it deserves. Although I love fall (as evidenced by my Halloween decorations going up as soon as the calendar reads September), summer will always hold a special place in my heart. Some of my fondest childhood memories include trips to the lake or the beach, and recreating those moments with my own family now is a blessing I cherish deeply. If you're looking for one last hurrah this summer, Shadow Bend at Live Oak Lake in Lacy-Lakeview, Texas, offers the best of both worlds. Just 10 minutes from downtown Waco, this upscale cabin boasts all the modern amenities you could dream of, with direct access to the water, allowing you to soak up the sun all day long.

Nature and luxury don't have to be mutually exclusive, and this waterfront retreat proves it. One of seven cabins on Live Oak Lake, Shadow Bend is surrounded by majestic live oak trees and sits just steps from the water's edge. The cabin measures 600 square feet and accommodates up to four guests, featuring two bedrooms and one bathroom.

Inspired by mid-century modern and Scandinavian design styles, Shadow Bend is an open, airy space that emphasizes natural materials, houseplants, and expansive windows that allow natural light to flood in. Despite its small size, the cabin feels spacious due to its seamless connection to the outdoors. The kitchen features high-end appliances and beautiful quartz countertops, and the living room boasts unparalleled views of the lake.

Sliding glass doors open onto a wraparound patio with comfortable furniture and a smokeless Tiki fire pit. Wood pellet packs are available for an extra fee. A hammock invites you to relax with a book or an afternoon nap, and you can walk down to the water anytime you like. Each cabin boasts its own private hot tub, and spa robes are provided upon request.

A common area features a wooden pergola with lounge chairs, picnic tables, and a propane grill. It also has a container pool on the very edge of the deck, overlooking the lake. Fairy lights keep the fun going well into the evening hours (which is a real blessing since it doesn't get cool until nighttime during the summer in Texas). Fish from the public dock, or take one of the complimentary kayaks or paddleboards for a spin on the lake.
