Honestly, it shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone that the Holland Hotel is among the most haunted hotels in TX. This place has been around for nearly a century, after all!
If you believe the stories, there have been numerous ghost sightings here. However, one particular spirit sends guests running for the hills on a regular basis.
According to the stories, one woman returned to her hotel room late at night after enjoying a friend's wedding. She discovered an odd photograph of a woman and child on the floor of her hotel room.
It was obviously out of place, but appeared to be a normal picture... that is, other than the paper-mâché mask that the mother was wearing.
The mask in the photograph looked similar to these. Needless to say, the guest was more than a bit unsettled by the creepy picture, but she managed to shrug it off in an attempt to get some sleep.
Once she started to nod off, she heard a strange scratching coming from the bathroom door. Concerned there were rats or roaches in the hotel, she opened the door to investigate, but found nothing there.
She then decided to sleep with the bathroom light on to scare away any critters that might be causing the noise. The "critter," however, had other ideas.
As soon as she got back in bed, she saw something that was being pushed underneath the bathroom door, from inside the bathroom. It was a mask that looked exactly like the one in the photograph. She tried to pick it up, but the mask disintegrated, leaving no trace.
Understandably, the guest left that night!
