Channel Your Inner Pioneer When You Spend The Night At This Covered Wagon Campground In De Smet, South Dakota
Ingalls Homestead in De Smet offers a unique camping experience with covered wagons and historic activities.
Thanks to the infamous gold rush, much of South Dakota's history is rooted in pioneering and exploration... but have you ever wondered what it would be like to live like our ancestors? Now you can, thanks to this peaceful South Dakota campground and its authentic covered wagons:
Welcome to the one-of-a-kind Ingalls Homestead!
Tucked away in De Smet, the Ingalls Homestead is - in fact - THAT Ingalls Homestead, as the attraction is located on the same land as Charles and Caroline's beloved home.
When you visit, you will be treated to the best of the quiet prairie life, beginning with tent, bunkhouse, or old-time covered wagon camping.
In terms of the latter, guests can choose between four covered wagons (two small and two large), which are based on a sheepherder's wagon and feature mattresses and mats depending on the size, screened windows and electricity, and a small fan.
Okay, so maybe these covered wagons are just a tad more comfortable than what our ancestors used...
When you wake in the morning, you will want to spend the day at the Ingalls Homestead, which boasts old-time crafts, wagon rides, pony carts, and other fun surprises.
The covered wagons run $60/night for the small or $70/night for the large.
