Pittsburgh boasts some pretty unique accommodations - from a former convent on the South Side to an enchanting treehouse in Farmington. However, the Original Yaca Dome in Pittsburgh just might be the most unique destination to spend a night. When you first walk through the front door, in fact, you'll likely feel as though you've stepped into a time capsule.
While most people know it as the Original Yaca Dome, those who own the unique Pittsburgh Airbnb simply refer to it as "The Igloo."
No matter what you call it, you can't deny it's perhaps the most unique property in the Pittsburgh area. Built by Pittsburgher Joseph Yacoboni in 1969, the dome-shaped home was the first of only 26 built in the United States.
Its one-of-a-kind design had a few purposes - to allow it to stand up against winds of up to 250 miles per hour and to ensure it stayed standing during earthquakes.
Don't expect luxury or 21st-century decor when you walk through the front door. Rather, the cozy home might very well bring on a rush of nostalgia.
If you need any help with that stroll down Memory Lane, take a peek at the vintage coffee pots in the kitchen. Did someone you know - or maybe even you - have the same pattern way back when?
The owners of the Airbnb have requested that the vintage coffee pots remain in place and not be used or touched.
Guests will have access to two of the three bedrooms; the third will be locked. You can comfortably sleep up to six guests in the one-of-a-kind home.
Natural light pours in from the round windows that are perfect for peering out of and catching a sunrise or a sunset.
You'll have everything you need for a cozy stay - a bathroom, a kitchen, and a living room with a smart TV.
Breathe in the fresh air and relax on the outdoor patio that has a dining set; it's perfect for having a meal or gathering around to play games.
