If you're a sucker for small-town food, head to Okemah to The Hen House - a little restaurant housed in a big cabin - serving food just like grandmas. This little place is full of character, delicious food, and homemade desserts.
The small town of Okemah is known as Woody Guthrie's hometown, but it's also home to a little dining gem - The Hen House.
It's located at 613 W. Broadway in Okemah - about an hour and 15 minutes from Tulsa and Oklahoma City.
The restaurant is housed in a big cabin that was built by the owners about 15 years ago. Just look for the red roof and old trucks out front.
Once inside, the charming rustic decor will win you over. It features tall ceilings, wood tables, vintage signs, and antiques.
It might surprise you just how good the food really is. They serve southern comfort food without deep fryers, so it's a bit healthier than your typical fried food.
Local favorites include chicken fried steak, prime rib, chicken and dumplings, and meatloaf. Plus, there are daily specials on the menu.
Take our word for it, the food is really, really good. It tastes just like grandma's food.
The charming atmosphere includes live music on stage on select nights. So you not only get delicious food, but great entertainment as well.
On top of all this, the homemade desserts are out of this world. They are always fresh, tasty, and more delicious than you could dream up.
Visit The Hen House Monday - Friday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and the first Saturday of each month from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
