Over the past several months, I’ve seen more and more places to stay in Hocking Hills pop up in my social media feeds. Either the algorithm knows that I love Hocking Hills, or this beautiful area of Ohio is THE place to be. I happen to think it’s both, so when I was offered the chance to stay in a brand new Hocking Hills cabin, I immediately responded with an enthusiastic YES! The Rocky Villa, offered through Book Hocking, moved to the top of my list of best places to stay in Hocking Hills from the moment we walked through the front door.
The Rocky Villa is a part of the eviivo Collective, so I knew my family was in for an unforgettable stay. If you are unfamiliar with this collection of unique properties, you need to check out their website.
Update from the writer: Right after publication, The Rocky Villa was named one of the Top Ten Properties from the eviivo Collective.
Getting to the cabin was a quick 15-minute drive from Hocking Hills State Park and it was very easy to find. You get a glimpse of the property as you approach the driveway and my eyes were immediately drawn to the covered bridge, the fire pit area, and the TWO waterfalls that sit right behind the cabin.
We parked right in front and didn’t bother with our bags, as we were too anxious to open that door. I could still smell the fresh paint as we opened the front door and were greeted by the most cozy, inviting space, and a wall of windows that made the evergreen trees appear to be a part of the decor.
Before heading back outside, my children checked out a bedroom on one side of the cabin and my husband and I walked through the small hallway into the other bedroom. The cabin is a mirror image of itself, with one bedroom/bathroom on each side of the living space, making this ideal for two couples, families, a small group of friends, or even a solo trip.
I walked straight to the sliding glass doors - I could see the waterfalls from the bedroom! I slid the door open and it was equivalent to turning on the soothing sounds of a sound machine. I’m not overstating one bit when I say this property is enchanting.
The deck stretches along the back of the cabin and is reachable by both bedrooms and the living room. There are comfy chairs, a table and chairs, a grill, a hot tub - that also overlooks those waterfalls - and a sauna.
In the 18 hours we were at the cabin, we were outside for about 10 of those. The property is so special and is laid out for being able to spend as much time outdoors as you like. We were there in early March, after a good rainfall, so the creek was full and the two waterfalls were flowing fairly well.
If all of the other features aren’t enough, The Rocky Villa has its own covered bridge to take you from one side of the creek to the other. I told my husband we should book another stay and have family pictures taken here. Every foot of the property was picturesque.
Once across the bridge, there’s a fire pit and another small cabin, as well as lovely views of the waterfalls and the cabin up on the hill. We carried our firewood down for later and spent time exploring the property.
My children are 9 and 11 and they fell in love with this Hocking Hills cabin. While there is Wifi and a smart TV, they preferred being outside in this unique environment. We skipped rocks, looked for tiny fish, and admired the crystal clear water.
The Rocky Villa is only 15 minutes from Logan, so you could easily head to town for dinner or any other meal. We opted to bring a few groceries and grilled out for dinner. I have never grilled steak, while overlooking waterfalls, and it was just as surreal as you can imagine. It was even warm enough that we could eat outside to continue to enjoy the view.
As the sun went down, twinkle lights illuminated all over the property. It was plenty bright to walk from the cabin, across the bridge, to the fire pit. I sometimes feel a little weary about being out in the woods at night, but not at this cabin!
We brought supplies for s'mores, turned on music through a portable speaker, and enjoyed that rare, quality time together as a family when there are no distractions.
I woke up with the sun to ensure I had time to have coffee on the deck. The experience felt like an entirely different level of relaxation.
After breakfast, we spent a little more time outside, cleaned up, and made sure we were out the door by 10am. It was very difficult to leave, but we will absolutely be back. I would stay here any month of the year, no matter the weather, even if just for one night.
While I’m certainly partial to The Rocky Villa, Book Hocking offers many other Hocking Hills cabin rentals. They range in size, price, and features, but each one looks unique, inviting, and ideal for a Hocking Hills getaway.
You could truly stay at The Rocky Villa, not leave the property and still have the ultimate Hocking Hills experience. We did venture out before and after our stay and enjoyed the scenic trails, especially having Cedar Falls all to ourselves.
If you live in Ohio or a neighboring state, chances are you’ve thought about the best places to stay in Hocking Hills. Maybe you’ve visited countless times and already have your favorite Hocking cabin. Either way, I can’t recommend The Rocky Villa enough and I hope you have a chance to stay, enjoy the peace and quiet, and create the same lasting family memories that we did.
