Let’s check it out:

Welcome to your new home away from home: a waterfront cottage in Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina.

This lovely vacation rental on Colington Island has two bedrooms and two bathrooms and can accommodate up to four guests comfortably. The cottage offers 180-degree views of Kitty Hawk Bay and is less than a 20-minute drive from Jockey’s Ridge State Park.

I love the large windows that allow you to soak in those views!

Guests also have access to the club pool, tennis courts, marina playground, and the waterfront sound park, which are all located in the gated community.

And just a short, 20-minute drive away is Jockey’s Ridge State Park—the perfect place to spend a summer day!

Fluctuating between 80 and 100 feet, Jockey’s Ridge is the tallest natural sand dune on the East Coast. The dune was formed by strong storms and strong water currents that washed sand from offshore shoals onto the beach. Winds and storms continue to blow the sand all over the place, so the dune is constantly changing.

Kite flying is one of the most popular things to do at Jockey’s Ridge State Park. The winds are perfect for it! There are plenty of local shops nearby where you can pick one up and have an old-fashioned day of flying kites. For a more thrilling adventure, a private company located inside the park offers hang gliding tours and sandboard rentals

There’s also a one-mile hiking trail, picnic areas, and beach access along Roanoke Sound. One of the best things about the park is that there are no admission fees for Jockey’s Ridge State Park. It’s also a pet-friendly park! Just keep in mind that the summer sun can really heat up the sand, so make sure your pup’s paws are protected.

After a long day of exploring Jockey’s Ridge State Park, head back to the waterfront cottage and enjoy a glorious sunset on the deck. The sunsets at the park are mesmerizing, too! If you’re staying for two nights, plan one of each!
