This Mountain View Vacation Rental Is the Perfect Home Base for North Carolina’s Best Hiking Trails

This vacation rental in North Carolina offers beautiful views and is close to some of North Carolina's best hiking trails.

’Tis the season for hiking in North Carolina! The Tar Heel State might be one of my favorite places to go hiking. I’m a sucker for mountain views, and the trails here always lead me to mesmerizing views. Speaking of mesmerizing views, this mountain view vacation rental in North Carolina is the perfect home base for exploring some of the most scenic trails in the state.

Welcome to Pie in the Sky, a mountain view vacation rental in Seven Devils, North Carolina.

Sitting pretty at 4,400 feet in the sky, this dreamy Airbnb has two bedrooms, five beds, and two baths and can comfortably sleep up to six guests. The space was expertly designed to ensure you have a front-row seat to spectacular mountain views—and boy oh boy, did they deliver!

One of the house's most unique features is its smart technology. Yep, this is a smart home! Everything from the temperature to the lights can be controlled via a smart panel. Listen to your own music, dim the lights, or set the temperature all from a singular source. If you’re thinking about converting your home into a smart home, this is a great test run! There’s also a 40-amp Juice Box to charge your electric car.

The vacation rental has a fully renovated kitchen with stainless steel appliances, a washer/dryer, and everything else you’ll need for a comfortable stay. I’d be enjoying all of my meals outside on this amazing porch. Then, if I’m being completely honest, I’d be lying on that table at night to stargaze.

Seven Devils is a great little town to use as a home base for outdoor adventures. You’re just a stone’s throw away from the Blue Ridge Parkway, which isn’t just a scenic drive, but you’ll find a ton of trails along the way. I found myself pulling over often to check out the trails and see if I could squeeze them into my day.

Grandfather Mountain State Park offers several hiking trails of varying difficulty, so you’re sure to find one that meets (or challenges) your skill set. The Black Rock Trail is a good, moderate trail that will take you on quite a scenic journey in its 1.5 miles. If you want to do a little scrambling, check out the Tanawha Trail. It’s less than a mile long, and you’ll have a rockstar view of the famous Linn Cove Viaduct.

For folks craving a little more adrenaline, Hawksnest Adventures is within walking distance of the Airbnb! Hawksnest offers thrilling adventures for year-round fun. Go snow tubing in the winter, and enjoy zip lining and whitewater rafting in the warmer months. They’ll be adding an alpine coaster this year (2025), so be sure to keep an eye out for that!

After an exhausting day of hiking and exploring, return to the vacation rental and enjoy a beautiful sunset from the five-person hot tub. Sounds like a picture-perfect getaway, right?
