Discover 5 Unique and Exceptional Airbnbs Across North Carolina
Which one will you choose?
Looking for a different, dare we say, whimsical Airbnb stay? The Baying Hound Campground in Asheville is the place to be. From private "homes" to primitive tent spots — if you're looking for someplace different to sleep tonight — this cool space is for you.
The magical path to the Baying Hound Campground is lined with yellow stars to help find parking and offers a kiosk with a map and other useful information. This remote spot is only about 10 minutes from downtown Asheville, full of handcrafted, upcycled structures made by creative artists. We can only anticipate what wonders await by the looks of these interesting sculptures. These spots are also super cheap! Here are a few of the reconstructed wonders available here.
1. The Magic Bullet
This suspended sleeping pod is part treehouse, part airplane, and part pick-up truck. (What?!) The "floor" is padded, but you might want to bring an inflatable mattress for extra softness. You'll also find shared fire pits and picnic tables scattered around for dining outdoors. Other community campground amenities include an indoor bathroom, an indoor hangout area with books, a charging station for phones, and an outdoor pit latrine. This seasonal outdoor solar shower is an amazing experience that everyone should try at least once. Winter reservations can bring sub-freezing temperatures, so be aware that primitive camping requires some well-thought-out plans for warmth and running water.
2. The Flying Gogoplata
This flying sleeping pod is up in the trees and perfect for the lone camper. The bed area is only 6 feet long by 3.25 feet wide. Its staircase is steep up to this cozy spot, and it only offers the essentials and great views out the windows. However, it also has access to shared spaces and an indoor bathroom.
3. Groovy Turtle Shell-ter
You'll find part truck cab, part perma-tent in this interesting sleeping arrangement. The decor truly is groovy, and you'll be surrounded by lush trees in every direction. The floor is padded, so bring sleeping bags and your favorite body pillows for the comforts of home.
4. The Triangle
Are geometrics your thing? Well then, this triangular-shaped stay is the perfect option. The inside can fit two guests, but there is space right outside to set up a tent if need be. You'll also have access to a shared space which includes an indoor bathroom, outdoor shower, living space with a couch, games, and outlets, and a community fire pit and grill. Be sure to bring your sleeping bag and pillows to stay cozy throughout the night.
5. Claude Jean Damme Van
Want to experience van life? Here's your chance! This bright orange van has space for two guests. While there's an elevated platform with padding, you'll still want to bring a sleeping bag and pillows. Nearby, you'll find an indoor bathroom, electrical outlets, and a community fire pit and grill.
