First Time Camper? This Accessible Campground in North Carolina Will Make You a Camping Convert
If you're a first-time camper, you're going to love the seclusion and space that this Western North Carolina campground offers.
Camping for the first time stirs up a whirlwind of emotions. I remember my own first trip vividly—it was a mix of overpacking, second-guessing every item on my checklist, and obsessing over whether I’d picked the right spot to pitch my tent for the weekend. But through all the planning and nerves, one thing became crystal clear: location is everything. Once you’ve locked in that perfect campsite, the rest tends to fall into place. If you're in North Carolina and looking for an easy, breezy introduction to the world of camping—something that might just turn you into a lifelong fan—check out the Appalachian Pond Campground on HipCamp. Tucked away in Haywood, this hidden gem offers over 40 acres of space to explore, giving you a remote and peaceful experience that’s far more magical than you might expect.
Escape to nature at this incredible private campground situated right in the heart of the Great Smoky Mountains of Western North Carolina! This beautiful and expensive retreat offers the perfect place to unwind and reconnect with the natural world. At over 40 acres, guests are able to choose from various sites to spend the night, with plenty of space to feel secluded.
The campground features 11 unique and cozy campsites, along with convenient amenities including a shower house, portable potties, and a sink for washing dishes. There’s also a drinkable well water spigot located at the back of the campground. Enjoy the calm of a nearby creek that runs along the campsites, and take advantage of the pond for swimming or fishing. With stunning foliage and an abundance of wildlife, you’ll be immersed in the best of what nature has to offer.
At night, prepare for some of the most peaceful sleep you’ve ever experienced—beneath a blanket of celestial stars shining brightly over the Western North Carolina sky. The campground is also located near local stores and attractions, making it both private and convenient.
One of my favorite aspects about this campground and why I feel like it's the perfect first-time place is the seclusion. So many campgrounds can feel tight, like each site is directly on top of the other. But this particular campground offers plenty of room for guests to stretch out, and potentially feel like they are the only campers there. It's remote, primitive, and perfect for getting your camping experience on.
A few important details directly from the host: they kindly ask that you contact them about pets before booking. They recommend checking in before 10 PM, as the property becomes very dark and difficult to navigate without guidance. During the colder months (November through April), the shower may be unavailable due to freezing temperatures; however, it is accessible during warmer periods.
If you’re ready to step away from the chaos of everyday life and embrace the simplicity and peace of nature, this North Carolina campground is your perfect escape.
