Located just over an hour’s drive away from New Orleans in Franklinton, Louisiana, this beautiful state park is an easy drive for both a day trip or a weekend get away.

The 1,786-acre state park is full of amenities that will appeal to just about everyone.

Fishing, kayaking, endless green spaces to sprawl out on, swimming, and so much more. You may need a couple of days to explore the entire park.

There are over 25 miles of trails.

Including a 4-mile mountain bike trail, a 7-mile nature trail, and a 14-mile equestrian trail.

These trails will lead you through the rolling landscape, hardwood forest and cypress tupelo swamps.

The rolling landscape will have you second guessing if you’re still in Louisiana. Nevertheless, these trails are great for families with kids.

One of the main attractions to Bogue Chitto State Park is Fricke’s Cave.

Resembling more of a gorge than a cave, this natural phenomenon is still a beautiful fight to see. The sandstone spires are created as the water erodes the surface underneath the pebbles. As the water splashes on the sandstone, little two-foot-tall fingers of sandstone are created. The boardwalks will give you a perfect bird’s eye view of these delicate creations.

Several hundred yards of beach lines the shores of the Bogue Chitto River.

Bring your beach towel and catch some rays. The river averages about 3-5 feet, making it the perfect spot to cool down on a hot summer day.

For anyone looking to make a weekend out of it, you have plenty of options.
