Tucked away in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains sits the tiny town Red River.
Named after the small perennial river that flows through it, this mountain town has transformed from its mining past into an idyllic getaway.
Red River is home to a handful of lodges and cabins that offer a quaint experience, such as the Rio Colorado Cabins.
This collection of cabins has been around since the 1940s and the knotty wood creates a charming, rustic experience with the addition of modern conveniences.
The Rio Colorado Cabins sit a short distance from the banks of the Red River, which offers a number of fun summer activities in addition to a peaceful atmosphere.
The lodge has 20 cabins located on its five acres and each has between one and three bedrooms.
Some sit near the river's edge (such as those hiding just beyond the trees in this photo) while others are closer to the playground or fishing pond.
All cabins have a rustic atmosphere with pine-lined walls, plus conveniences like a fully-equipped kitchen, cozy bathrooms, free WiFi, and TVs.
Plus, a majority of the cabins are pet-friendly for a small additional fee.
The Rio Colorado Cabins are located in Red River, New Mexico, approximately 107 miles north of Santa Fe via State Route 68.
The cabins are open year-round so, depending on the season, you can enjoy hiking, viewing the fall foliage, sledding, and fishing. For information about booking a stay, rates, and more, visit the facility's website or Facebook page.
